I totally failed to make any headway in Catching Fire. I got to a scene that reminded me too much of Twelve Years a Slave so I had to put the book down for awhile. For like a whole week. I’m planning to pick it back up today, though.

Catching Fire

Reminds me why I like romance. To balance, I’ve been really enjoying S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared. It is even sexier than the first book.

No Black Friday shopping for me. How about you? What are you reading this weekend?

I Fail to Add Jewel to My Playlist

but it wasn’t a complete waste.

“Tomorrow may be hell, but today was a good writing day, and on the good writing days nothing else matters.” —Neil Gaiman

On Saturday, stay-at-home wintry weather Saturday, I warmed up for my writing session by doing some research that led to me hunting down Jewel’s 1997 radio version of “Foolish Games” on iTunes, only to discover that in order to buy the song I have to buy the whole freaking Batman and Robin soundtrack, and I don’t WANT any of those other songs, thank you, and then I further discovered that “Foolish Games” was released as a single along with “You Were Meant for Me” on CD  that is like a twenty-five dollar collector’s item on Amazon. Come on! Anyway, after all that, and fueled by lots of hot cocoa, I got down to business.

I finished writing the final, final scene of the new split-in-two version of my novel.

Whew!

That called for celebration.

My self-imposed Internet-surfing ban now over, I checked Twitter and saw the quote at the beginning of this post, courtesy of Writer.ly. It was just so fitting.

Next step for me and my novel is the polishing of the new rewrites.

Good thing there is a long Thanksgiving weekend ahead.

I just have to resist the temptations of the movie marathons, the shopping sprees, and the hunting down of Jewel songs.

Check out the rest of the list of Writer.ly’s quotes by famous authors. I also love the one by the Maya Angelou.

It snowed this weekend, so I stayed home. I walked out of the house to bring in the paper, de-ice the bird bath, and fill the feeder. That was it. This is the desert. I came here for the sand, sun, and sky. Not the snow.

30 seconds after I filled the feeder, the birds were all up on it.

Friday night was the premiere of the final (sniff) six-part (wail) season of Nikita.

Saturday the chilling out continued:

On snow day Sunday, Tosh used her buddy as a pillow. I want a warm furry pillow, too!

Well, fun’s over. It’s Monday, and I have to go push snow off the car and go to work.

Anybody else go into hibernation mode when it’s less than stellar outside? What are your favorite “staying in” activities?

I laughed out loud in surprised delight at the end of Who Asked You? I highly recommend this book as long as you’re not looking for strong romantic elements. This is more family dramedy territory. (Although, there is a little love story going on.) 😉

Who Asked You? by Terry McMillan

On the other hand, I voted for Wait For You in the romance category of the Goodreads Choice Awards because this is one of the most romantic books I’ve read in awhile. I also stayed up way too late on a week night to finish it.

Wait For You

I just started S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared, the follow-up to S.E.C.R.E.T. which I really enjoyed and think about quite a bit.

I am also trying to get through Catching Fire before the movie opens this weekend. Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to make it. But there is no way I’m seeing the movie before I’ve finished the book, so I guess I won’t make it to opening weekend.

Catching Fire

Sniff.

What are you reading this weekend?
